The Ibiza Creativa adventure: And so we were born…

Ibiza Creativa was founded on 10 October 2016. The President of the Consell d’Eivissa (Council of Ibiza), Vicent Torres, accompanied by the Island’s Director of Tourism and the Councillors of Tourism for the five town councils of the island presented Ibiza Creativa, a new initiative aiming to drive Creative Tourism on the island, at a press conference.

At the presentation ceremony held at the Ibiza Museum of Contemporary Art (MACE), Vicent Torres explained that the initiative is about “non-intrusive tourism that seeks respectful immersion in the area”.

Under the slogan “be creative, transform tourism”, Ibiza’s institutions made an appeal to all individuals, organisations and companies with invigorating and original ideas that would like to participate in the new platform.

However, there was still a lot of work to be done at that time. Most of the island’s entrepreneurs and creatives were unaware of the Creative Tourism concept. So we got to work on it.

On 23 November, the first Creative Tourism Forum was held on the island of Ibiza, at the Jesús cultural centre. Caroline Couret, director of the International Creative Tourism Network, attended the event.

More than 80 people turned out for this introductory presentation which included the first workshop in which entrepreneurs wishing to be part of Ibiza Creativa could work on their projects.

Throughout 2017, presentations were given to all the councils on the island, resulting in around 100 people signing up to the initiative.

The last day of work, held in May at the headquarters of the School of Tourism, targeted entrepreneurs who had already submitted their projects to the platform. A total of 20 people attended this event in addition to Caroline Couret and lawyers specialising in Creative Tourism, Facundo Solá and Eduardo Sánchez de Prado, plus the Director of Tourism, Vicent Torres.

Over a full year, Ibiza Creativa has been discussing creative tourism and coming up with experiences for visitors wanting to discover the island with the help of its residents, enjoy new experiences and learn first hand about the island.

It’s thanks to the island’s entrepreneurs, craftspeople and creatives that Ibiza Creativa is now a reality.
